Becoming a patent attorney in US, Canada, UK, Australia

Becoming a patent attorney in US, Canada, UK, Australia?
Dear readers, I will be soon graduating from a pharmacy school in Australia with a Bachelor of pharmacy. I became interested in patent law as I studied pharmacy law throught out the course. First of all, I would like to know what the salaries of a patent attorney are like in US,Canada, Australia, and UK. It seems like a law degree is required in order to become a patent attorney in the US, but not in the other three mentioned above. In that case, would I be eligible to work as a patent attorney in US after obtaining the license from Canada, Aus, or UK? (By just taking the bar exam issued by the state, without advancing to a graduate degree) And how hard are the license exams in each of the four countries? Any detailed replies are appreciated!

You would NOT be required to become an attorney to practice patent law in the United States - you can become a patent agent. The best resource for this information is the USPTO website. You are eligible to take the Patent Bar Examination if you have had a required number of science credits (in your case, it doesn't sound like that should be a problem), you can take a quick course to assist you in the review or rely on online materials and once you pass the exam you are a registered patent agent. It would probably be most useful to gain experience through a law firm, being hired on as a scientific advisor, and these positions can start at $50K but that would be before taking the examination - upon successful completion they would pay you at least $70-80K which would rise to around $90K-$100K once you've gained experience. All of that is in US dollars. My understanding is that it's a bit more complicated in UK (I looked into it a few years ago) but again, all that information (and more up-to-date than what I might remember) will be available on the European Chartered Institute of Patent Attorney's website. Good luck!

It doesn't really work like that. You can't just enrol into school at age 40. I think the latest you can enrol if you're from another country is age 18 and that's starting year 12. But for example say if you're an athlete, or you're sick you can do your final years of high school over 3 or 4 years. So hypothetically you could be 20 and still at high school.

We don't have elementary schools in the sense of the US. Our school system is Primary School for K (Kindergarten as opposed to pre school) - Year 6 and High School for year 7 to year 12. Also most of our schools don't have a mascot in the US sense. They may have a school animal, though even this is rare now. The vast majority of our schools are public, and they take enrolments based on the area you live in. In some special circumstances they may take students from outside an area. As a general rule the best public schools are the ones on the North Shore and eastern suburbs of Sydney, they are also some of the largest. We do have private schools, and the vast majority of these are religious based. Also many private schools are a primary school and high school combined, therefore take K - year 12. Some also have Prep which is a pre Kindergarten schooling. Some of the private High Schools do ave what's called feeder schools, which are primary schools that feed into those high schools, in which case it's best to contact the individual schools. The best of the best private school in Sydney is Kings School, and is highly prestigious and expensive. A good school on the outskirts of Sydney is Broughton Anglican College, which takes Prep to year 12. Also keep in mind that many private schools also are selective, in that you need a certain academic level to qualify for entry, money alone won't do. Generally our public school system is quite good, some schools suffer a severe lack of funding, however academically they are up to scratch and many students from the public system go to university and have very good careers. In fact a number of our Prime Ministers, including our current one, came through the public schooling system.

We don't have elementary schools in Australia, we have primary schools for kids aged 5-12 or so years. There are hundreds of primary schools around Sydney and NEWCASTLE (one word). Which suburb are you looking at living in? What mascot? Why would a school have a mascot?
3 :
There's tons and tons of primary schools in Sydney/ Newcastle.. sooo around what area are you looking at? the CBD? inner or outer west? North or North shore? South Suburbs? We need a little more info
4 :
First off we call them primary schools secondly Australian schools don't have mascots, if you mean what I think you mean. http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/schoolfind/locator/?do=sub_advancesearch This is the search for Newcastle and these are just primary schools you can search schools that go all the way through. Here's the initial site search engine http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/schoolfind/locator/
5 :
Unless you send your child to a private school, you must send them to one of the state public schools in the area where you reside. We don't have mascots. When you were at School- did you learn about other countries

When you were at School- did you learn about other countries?
In Australia- Primary School, of course we had subjects like Australian Studies,Australian History. Many schools taught American studies also...nothing else...unless you chose to learn a language, the language class would touch on very basically that particular country. Which countries are taught to Greek children at school?
Greece - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
in USA we mostly learn about american history which ofcourse involved Britain but in 6th grade we had a class called geography (my favorite class) where we learned about Asia, Africa, The Middle East, South America etc... also in elementary school we learned about Rome, Ancient Greece, and Egypt. We studied Greek mythology more in freshman year of highschool which was very interesting. In 11th grade of highschool we studied Germany and surrounding countries with the Holocaust and World War 2 as well.
2 :
does geography count in primary school?in secondary & high we learned world history about severals countries & ancient civilizations that were involved in some, more or at all way with my country.*******[greek cigar in case you take a look you will get your 100 euros if you read my text pal ;) ] @ plostad troll your country with that name is fake & pretender of another genuine land we have in greece which is MACEDONIA[ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ].in the worst case of scenario[if the universe turns upside down] that you have some right in your country's title you could name it north/northern slavic macedonia.they must be included all the 3 words so the worldwide community can understand that you are different from the macedonians in greece & you are only a part of a whole land.bulgaria has also land that was in greek macedonia...if they wanted they could declare a new country too with the name: bulgarian macedonian republic.the whole world will learn about your misfortune, confusion & big mistake to even considerate your soil as genuine macedonian!your fake land's flag don't even belong to you!
3 :
In Greece we learn about "England, Turkey, USA, Italy, Persia" in history class.
4 :
I don't think you can say a particular country is taught to Greek children. Geography is pretty detailed, and you get the chance to learn a lot about all continents and their countries. History is a different thing. Greece has been involved one way or the other in some of the most important moments in history, so we learn a lot about history and the countries involved. We focus on European history a lot. Middle Ages, Renaissance, European Wars, Empires..... But we don't have separate American studies or Chinese studies or Australian studies for example, focusing on one country alone. Our World History focuses on the most important historical events around the world and not on a specific country.
5 :
In Greece... In Primary school I remember we learnt only about Greece. Peripheries, regions etc. In Junior High School we learnt about Europe and Greece. In Lyceum we learnt about the whole globe and its history including Greece.
6 :
When over half century, I was in school, the lesson of Geography was one of the main subjects almost right from the first grade. We did a lot of things starting from the closest to us, environment. That was learning of the physical morphology of ground and seas. Progressively, we learned of our prefecture, its morphology, its villages, its characteristics. Then the next years we learned of Greece as a whole, of Europe, and finally of the world That subject was one of my favorite and I can claim that things learned then, were more than often found staring me during my adult life. One other aspect that helped me in life was that I was a stamp collector, from the age of 8. The beautiful world of stamps from various countries and the depicted on them various subjects, helped me learn more of those countries. So many little details learned from all those little pieces of paper. Later on in Gymnasium the geography lesson was more serious, but the background I had accumulated on the subject from lessons and stamps helped me enormously, in both my hobby and my life.

I believe the minimum school leaving age is 16 or year 10. Which it has been for many years. When my parents where at school (30+ years ago) most students left at the end of year 10, only those going on to university stayed until the end of year 12, now times have changed most students stay until year 12 regardless of if they plan to go to University.

If he seems ready to start school you should let him. You could hold him back and let him start next year. There is no one right answer for every child.
2 :
Where I live they must turn 5 before October. My daughter's birthday is in December so she can't go until next year. That means she will be turning 6 a few months after starting Kindergarten. So she will be older than many of her classmates. You can have your child tested to see if he is ready to start Kindergarten, but I chose to let her go to preschool for another year to help her social skills.

That shouldn't be a problem as long have met any required prereq. The courses might even count as electives. Even if they don't, there's not really a limit on what you're allowed to learn as long as you are able to manage it. The are some limits on the number of hours you are able to get financial for, so you might want to look at that. But where money is not an issue, people are able to even pursue double majors.

The low university marks to get into a teaching course results in teachers who are not very bright academically. Many teachers have very poor spelling! Class sizes are dreadful. Bullying is dreadful - it's starting earlier and early childhood educators are now going to seminars to learn how to deal with 2 year old bullies (although that's not limited to public education). The school philosophy doesn't reflect what is actually going on. Too many disgruntled teachers who don't put the child first. More and more people are choosing alternatives to public education. I went to public schools and SEVEN of my teacher's have been goaled for various offences since I left. And they're only the one's that I know of! And many teacher's in high school are not qualified to be teaching the subjects that they are. eg. PE teachers teaching maths. During my HSC year we had no ancient history teacher for 3 months. And when we finally got one, he'd never studied Ancient Egypt!

Only some private schools advertise for teachers - all other appointments are made by the Department of Education in the various state from their pool of qualified teachers. Its unlikely that you will get a private school position with only a years experience and no face to face interview so your best bet is to contact the state (that you wish to move to) education department and see whether your qualifications are acceptable. In some states you have to sit a face to face meeting in order to be scaled (the scaling affects the priority of your placement)

I can help with art and religion.... The art of Australia includes Australian Aboriginal art and Colonial, Landscape, Atelier, Modernist and Contemporary art. Australia is the home of artists from Western traditions and Indigenous Australian traditions. Rock art can be found all over Australia. The Sydney rock engravings, approximately 5000 to 200 years old, is an example. The earliest arts were of flowers and animals found in Australia. ............................ Early settlement of Australia brought with it predominantly Christian faiths in the form of Irish Catholics and English Anglicans, with a smaller number of Methodists and a few Jews. Following these early days a wide variety of Christian denominations slowly made their way to Australia with further immigrants arriving and settling in particular areas. Pockets developed so that, for example, Lutherans became common in Queensland and Barossa, and Methodists became numerous in South Australia. Today's religions: Anglicanism, Judaism, Buddhism, and some Islam from Muslims come on camel's backs.

I used to think that until it was pointed out to me that the parents of the kids who go there pay tax just like I do, probably more tax, as they make more money than me.
2 :
haven't you already asked this question 3 times? I have to give you credit though you have reworded it. Can i ask why is this funding such an issue for you? Is it because the schools you were to were in low SES so therefore they received less recourses as the parents couldn't afford them so the school had to pay the bill and supply resources so the school couldn't spent resources in other areas? Didn't your school have a good PnC? I would really like for you to modify your question and write why you have such an issue for it and answer your own question as well... as i am really perplexed as to why you feel so strongly about the funding issue when there is more things of greater concern in the Qld school system than the dissemination of funding. To answer the question... No. Private schools pick up the slack where Ed qld dont want to build schools. A lot of funding for private schools comes from fedral under another program. I am more concerned about the quality of teachers at present how the average age of a teacher in Australia is 52 and how they have a very different teaching style than is promoted (or even needed) for todays school system, how these teachers have incentives (to the sum of 50 000) to retrain in a different industry and the pick up rate is appalling. I am concerned about all the new teachers coming through who do not have the passion and drive so therefore are failing miserably as teachers. A good teacher can still get exceptional educational outcomes with limited resources where a crap teacher can have all the resources but unless they have the skill and imagination to put it to good use then there is no use that teacher having the resources at all.
3 :
No I don't I sent my daughters to a private school and in doing so did not use up any facilities or money that the government spend on public schools. I pay my taxes and never used subsided daycare so why are my kids not entitled to funding just because I pay to send them to a good school.
4 :
No I would not ,I sent my children to private school and paid in excess of $15k a year for 2 children plus both my husband and I pay taxes at the highest rate. Everybody has the same choice you can also send your children to a private school if you choose.

Hi, I'm studying at JSchool in Brisbane now and it seems very good. There's a much bigger focus on writing stories than there seems to be in University courses, from what I hear about those. I've had ten stories published already on our website which will double as our portfolio; see http://newsbytes.com.au for the standard we're expected to reach. Facilities are a bit Spartan; one day a week we have a class in the Brisbane Square library and two days in space rented from a Julia Russo school. So far we've visited the Brisbane City Council several times, the Queensland Parliament twice, the Supreme Court, the Art Gallery, and opera and theatre performances. We usually are expected to write stories, reviews and so on. Initiative is encouraged. Five of us went out a fortnight ago to the opening of the new duplicate Gateway Bridge and several published stories came out on that There is a constant focus on what it will be like to work in a real newsroom, and pressure to write stories so we know a little of the pressure we'll be under when we get work in the industry. It seems far more practical than journalism courses at Uni where, I believe, students write only four stories a semester.

I found JSchool online a few years back and I've kept an eye on the homepage and blog for a while. The director told me that this ensures people with a seeking spirit are attracted to JSchool- rather than attracting people who are not really interested. It seems to be working. There is a great camaraderie and the lecturers are very approachable. It's extremely practical and we are all thrown in the deep end pretty early on. I was also offered a place in a Masters of Journalism course at one of the main Brisbane universities but chose JSchool without any hesitation. DJ said it very well.
4 :
Hi, I attend Jschool at the moment and it's probably the best Journalism course in the country. I went to UQ and studied Journalism and communications there, it wasn't very good. There was no preparation for writing hard news etc whereas Jschool on the other hand does. Your not made to feel stupid if you ask for help and we do TEELINE!! No other Journalism course offers that, and if that doesn't seal the deal our director John, found your question and sent an email to all of us students to help you out. Honestly Jschool is the best Journalism school on Australia. P.s if you want to check out some of our work, we run an online publication www.newsbytes.com.au :)

Sydney or Melbourne. Melbourne's weather is not as nice, but it's very arty and chic if that's your thing. Sydney is more bold and vibrant.
2 :
Melbourne, depending where you are from, melbourne can be Little cold and dull compared to other states, i live two hours north of sydney, and do not like sydney nearly as much, Melbourne has a fantastic transport system, it has great places to go out at night or wander during the day, it is hip, artistic yet old. Melbourne has everything sydney has except the beaches and warmer weather, though it still has a nice climate, Melbourne is also not as populated as sydney, making it a nicer place to get around, travel from and safer. it is also cleaner and well designed making it easy to get around. I would definitely go for melbourne, it would be easy to travel up to sydney or the other cities on other times, but to live i would choose melbourne. Cost of a air flight to sydney from melbourne is $50.
3 :
Sydney definitely, Melbournes so ugly and flat, and is not as city like as Sydney, Melbourne has terrible weather and always has that sort of polluted look about it

How to get to Australia this summer? (high school student)

How to get to Australia this summer? (high school student)?
I'm a high school student in the United States. I need something - whether it be an internship, homestay, boarding school etc. to get me to Sydney this summer (when it will be winter there) and keep me grounded with a good amount of independence. Do you have any specific suggestions on where to go? I've done a lot of research, but I've found it extremely difficult to find something that wasn't a teen tour-like program

If your credit is VERY important, compare the CRA direct reports with the myFICO reports.
2 :
I would avoid sydney unless you have a lot of money. Rent in Sydney is much more expensive than in most cities in the US. Boarding schools in sydney have very long waiting lists, most children wanting to go to a private/boarding school in Sydney are enrolled at high school when they are 2 years old. A farmstay would give you a great experience if you don't mind hunting kangaroos and cutting the balls off sheep, and you will get paid (although not much) Queensland will be nice in winter, victoria and tasmania will be very cold but are very beautiful.
3 :
You will not be able to come to Australia under the age of 18 unless you are either 1) in a school or 2) on the tour program you are talking about P2P. 1) requires you to commit to 6 -12 months and requires either a formal exchange program (6 or 12 months) or to enrol as an international student in a boarding school (12 months and there is a multi year waiting list - plus will cost around 15K).

What subjects do you have to study in High School to be a solicitor in Australia

What subjects do you have to study in High School to be a solicitor in Australia?
And whats the mininum HSC score to study law in University?

like you said it's about uni...... whatever subjects you do in high school.. just make sure you go really really good at.... look at great musicians for inspiration, repetition, repetition, repetition is the way to go
2 :
do what you enjoy and are good at whilst in high school, as long as you get good marks in each subject. it will all depend on your UAI, all though i believe it is changing to some other ranking system for the 2010 intake. try sites such as UAC to find out the entry requirments. also have a look at some of the universities that you are interested in attending to find out what their requirements are. most will show the UAI for this years intake, but for next year and the year after they should be around the same. different universities will have different UAI cut-offs. for example charles sturt would be alot lower than UTS or UNSW.

What Languages Do Kids In Australia Learn In School

What Languages Do Kids In Australia Learn In School?
In School What They Learn
Other - Australia - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
the schools i went to the languages we had were italian, german, and in high school we could choose from german, greek or japanese. i'm not sure but i think german's the most common language to learn in school
2 :
Depends entirely on the school. My son's school in Perth teaches Indonesian and Japanese.
3 :
Different schools teach different things, but the main ones are: German Indonesian Chinese Japanese Spanish French and sometimes Italian. Schools focus mostly on the Asian languages because Australia does a lot of business with Asia. There are also some bi-lingual schools, mostly French. There are some Islamic schools that are also bi-lingual. Those are the main ones. However, we don't teach them to any great depth. Most kids don't remember much more than the numbers and how to say their name if they're not serious, which is a shame.
4 :
You can learn almost anything. Previous posters have pretty covered the basics in general High School. Outside of normal school hours you can learn almost any language you like, including Latin. Run independently but with the assistance of the Department of Education, Employment and Training (and their state counterparts) are Saturday language schools. These are usually run by local accredited speakers of the language and are assessable. I'm not sure if they count toward your final year marks, but the life benefit outweighs any academic merit. For example my brother started to learn Serbian at Saturday school, which was not offered in the mainstream curriculum.
5 :
My five children are in primary school and they are learn French.
6 :
If you look at what languages students do in the HSC in NSW - of the top 5 only one (French at number 4) is European. The rest are all Asian languages.
7 :
English predominantly. The second language options vary from school to school. Personally, when I was in school I was taught Indonesian and Japanese. Most schools either have these subjects, or French or German.
8 :
Touchy subject with me... when I went to High School.... in a rural area... we WANTED to learn languages... but our STUPID ANNAL HEADMASTER insisted that "farmer's children do not NEED to know a second language"... and so it was not in our curriculum... But as others have pointed out... many languages are taught in australian schools these days.
9 :
We got taught Japanese at my school

In the usa Kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sometimes sixth (depending on the school sixth grade is either elementary or middle school) and middle school is sometimes 6th, 7th and 8th grades. But 9, 10, 11 and 12 are always high school in the USA.
3 :
Neither. It's a different system. Primary, middle and high. Not just primary and high.

Is Bond University a good school

Is Bond University a good school?
I was thinking of going to grad school in Australia. Either for business or law. So I was looking into schools for that. It says on Bond's website that they are the best university in Australia. I know incredibly little about it though or about schools in Australia in general. Maybe some here could give me some good advice. They are basing this on the "good university guide." But when I look up their reference, I don't see anything that proves it.
Brisbane - 3 Answers

1 :
I'd query where Bond is getting their data from. Bond is a private university which means it doesn't get ranked on any international or national scale so unless they quoted a study then you don't know for sure what they meant. It is, however, the largest and most well known private university in Australia. I've heard good things about it, but each university has certain fields in which it excels. I don't know whether it's particularly good for business or law since I don't study in those fields. Try and find some non-university sponsored reviews of Bond online to find out more. Another option would be to email some law firms on the Gold Coast and ask them what their opinion of Bond is. They'll have a better idea of the quality of graduate from there than anyone else and will be less likely to be biased towards any particular institution.
2 :
Australia has two private universities of which Bond is one. They are both the newest universities in the Country and have really no reputation to speak of. Most of the lecturers are PT not there all the time, the fees are high and the students for Bond mostly come from overseas or PR Australians (not citizens).. Be aware that Australian law is specific to Australia - most of the information will not be transferable to your own country.
3 :
It's a piece of crap. Basically a money making scam to rip-off wealthy people from the Orient. It has no academic reputation to speak of.

About university school fee for oversea student in Australia

About university school fee for oversea student in Australia?
Hi, I just want to know the range of university school fee for overseas students studying in Australia (I am one myself), especially for my course ( I want to be a math teacher). Please help, thanks in advance. And by getting a permanent visa, would it help reduce my school fee? Thanks heaps. And Im staying in perth so I'm looking at universities in Perth :D
Studying Abroad - 1 Answers

it really depends on what sort of course you want to do what the fees would be. at my uni (monash in melbourne) these are the sort of fees you'll be looking at: visual arts: $ 19000 AUD arts: $ 19400 AUD journalism: $ 20850 AUD business and commerce: $ 22480 AUD nursing: $ 21500 AUD primary education: $ 19650 AUD science: $ 24470 AUD social work: $ 18900 AUD law: $ 23600 AUD economics: $ 22480 AUD engineering: $ 25800 AUD computer science: $ 23800 AUD info tech: $ 23800 AUD medicine: $ 42300 AUD pharmacy: $ 27300 AUD so pretty much you're looking at a range between $18000 and $26000 unless you want to do medicine. I'm not sure that a permanent visa would reduce your fee. I think only citizenship will do that. unless you've been here for a while, and aren't just coming over to study, most of hte time you will not be able to apply for permanent residency until you've completed your studies. i think monash is a more expensive university though. so have a look around at other university sites. try these unis, their fees are lower for a lot of things: http://www.latrobe.edu.au/coursefinder/courseFind.jsp?level=UG&type=I http://vu.edu.au/library/scripts/objectifyMedia.aspx?file=pdf/570/53.pdf&siteID=4&str_title=2008 undergraduate course list.pdf this site has a list of all australian universities: http://www.australian-universities.com/list/

Best Law School In Victoria, Australia

Best Law School In Victoria, Australia?
I am seriously considering doing a Graduate Law Course and I'm trying to work out which university I should attend. I would go to ANU but I can't really move interstate. I've been trying to find information but it doesn't seem like there is a ranking of universities in Victoria by faculties. I am currently at La Trobe so I'm considering going there. But I know that Melbourne University is the best university in Victoria. However I want the best law school and I don't know how to work it out.

Hey mate, That's a tough question. I am not aware that we in Oz have law school rankings. Their rankings seem to be linked to the reputation of the university itself. What makes a good law school, I wonder? Is it how well students are taught the law and succeed in their careers? Is it how many are going into the big law firms after graduation? A niece of mine went to UQ (University of Queensland) law and was so appalled by the boring delivery that she left. UQ is a top university along the same rank as Melbourne Uni. I am attending (online) Charles Darwin Uni law, and while this university might be quite low ranked, the lecturers vary from brilliant to appalling, just like in the best of the universities. If in doubt, go for Melbourne or Monash uni. Pity you can't attend ANU, I'd go there in a blink but I can't leave my current employer. The main reason for ANU is its reputation overall, but its law school? I have heard of a friend who did their GDLP through ANU and he said it was the worst experience he's had in his law studies. So, there you have it.

University in Australia thats close to a small town and in a scenic area

University in Australia thats close to a small town and in a scenic area??
Hi, I am considering going to school in australia , But I want to go to a university thats near a" real" australian FOLKLORIC town [ to get a better experience of the people] ??? Also one in a scenic area AWAY from "tourists"??

ANU - Australian National University. It is in Canberra and is surrounded by " real" australian FOLKLORIC towns within less than an hour drive and is a gateway to all the ourback further out in New South Wales and Victoria. A very picturesque part of the country. A bit cold in winter though.
2 :
Hi there. It will probably depend upon what course of study you intend to undertake. Most university campuses are located in major metropolitan centres...Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth etc. Some universities have regional campuses as well which feed from the major urban areas into the larger regional towns. A further extension of this are those courses which are available via external learning programs whereby you effectively purchase the course notes, study, submit assignments as appropriate, before travelling to a suitable location to undertake exams. You really need to enquire with the major universities regarding your chosen course of study and see what options are available to you from there. Hope this is of some help. Cheers :)
3 :
University of New England in Armidale. Just oozes folkloricity. Armidale is a proper rural town with sheep and stuff just out of town. Very cold in winter (by Australian standards). When the westerlies whip down Beardy St you really feel it.
4 :
the university of the sunshine coast, on the sunshine coast. it has a relatively small population (because the Australian pop is so small there are no unis in small towns). the sunshine coast is famous for its beaches. i don't know what folk things you are interested in but it's very likely you'll find it in australia. you pretty much have 3 options: city, beach or country.
5 :
University of Western Australia - Kalgoorlie branch. That's a 'real' Aussie experience but expect to finsh your degree looking, behaving and sounding like a fat, feral, aussie bush pig.
6 :
University of New England in New South Wales
7 :
University of Tasmania!
8 :
Monash uni has a campus in Gippsland (victoria) its in a little town called Churchill situated about 11kg south of Morwell on the base of the Jeeralang hills. really beautiful country. gippsland has a lot to offer and the uni has a good reputation. churchill has a population of about 6,000 with larger towns very close by with good public transport and plenty to do for fun and sports etc. Also its less than 2 hrs away from Melbourne an hour away from the coast (great beaches) and only about 2hrs away from the snow fields. There is also opportunity for part time work. When you check out all the other suggestions include Monash campus Churchill. good luck
9 :
University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba.
10 :
You will get a great experience of the people at any university in Australia. Country towns with universities tend to keep the university separate and locals don't mix with students. Consequently the students all tend to stick together. You would meet far more locals at big city universities like Sydney, Melbourne, UNSW, Monash, ANU etc.
11 :
I'd recommend Newcastle Uni, depending on what you wish to do. They have lovely beaches, and the city is more like a huge country town. On the ABC radio station, a grandmother rang up to say that her grandson's soccer ball had bounced onto the road, and whilst the boy went inside to fetch her, some loser stole it. Within the hour, he was given three new soccer balls, one signed by the entire Newcastle Jets. Newcastle supports the people of the community, and if you are looking to learn about the Aboriginal culture, there are six main tribes. Northern Territory is good as well, if you wish to learn about the Aboriginal culture
12 :
First, you need to see what unis offer the course you want. You'll be paying heaps for it, so choose wisely! You'll get a good experience of Australia wherever you study, but if you want to avoid large cities, stay away from Sydney. As another respondent said, unis in country towns do tend to be rather seperate to the rest of the town. You don't have to stay seperate, you can join clubs outside of the uni, but that's just how things tend to go. I don't know what you mean by "folkloric" but we don't have fake towns, they're all real! Email me if you end up coming to Latrobe Bendigo! It's a lovely campus, just a few km from my place :) Bendigo is a gold rush town, so I suppose that is kind of folkloric, but not really touristy. It's also got easy access to Melbourne, only 2 hours on the train. There are a lot of overseas students, a whole heap from Botswana for some reason. A lot of the Aussie students are from country areas who can handle the size of Bendigo, but hate the big cities like Melbourne. I'm from Melbourne, so I have to do the driving when I take friends down from Bendigo!
13 :
check out UNE www.une.edu.au Its in Armidale and fits your criteria. As an ex student id highly recommended!!

G'day, There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content. There are quite alot of Australian universities offering medical courses to international students. I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au) online databases. The information abt fees & requirements can be found in the university's website. Please make sure that you access the information for internationals students, since some requirements, application form and fees are different than Australians'. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. Depending on your country of origin, you may also need to submit an IELTS test results for proof of your English proficiency (www.ielts.org) Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)

What sports do Australia's high schools have

What sports do Australia's high schools have?
I might be moving to Melbourne soon, I'm 15 and live in MN. I play volleyball, basketball and a little soccer. (I was going to try Nordic skiing this year) I'm not the most athletic person, but sports are important to me, so i was wondering what sports high schools in Australia provide.
Melbourne - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
there's surfing and the boomerang. no kidding, mate. learning to use the boomerang is tricky.
2 :
For the most part - if you are going to a public school there are no sports program as such. No school against school playing. You might have a PE lesson although at 15 PE will not be a compulsory subject any more. In Australia school is for the "book teaching" thats all. When 3.30pm rolls around you go home - there are no after school activities at school. You do all this in independently from your school education. So you will need to check out soccer teams in your local area (although the season is almost over for this year). Volleyball is not popular and you might (ok will) find it hard to find a team anywhere. There is no skiing in Melbourne - but a number of hours drive away near the Vic NSW border.
3 :
Many private schools have inter-school sporting competitions but in Australia, sport is centred on strong inter-club competitions away from school. You only need to look at Australia's international sporting strength to see how effective that approach is for us - for a nation of only 22 million people, we do disproportionately well on the world sporting stage e.g., at the Beijing Olympics, we were #5 on the overall medal tally and at Athens, Australia came in at #4. You won't miss out on your sport and you won't find the competition or training to be below the standard you're accustomed to, but you may not do it at school. In Melbourne, you won't have any trouble finding clubs for all of your sports except skiing (no snow makes that a bit tricky) - it's a very sports oriented city.
4 :
P.E classes are compulsory up to year 9, then in year 10, 11 and 12 you can choose different sport classes. There are inter-school sports where you play against other schools. Some of the sports that you can choose from are.. football (australian), cricket, soccer, basketball, netball, hockey, baseball, softball and some schools have rowing, water polo, diving and more. Most schools (or all) have Swimming and Athletics carnivals where everyone attends to compete or just cheer on, and then the winners go on to compete against other schools.
5 :
Australian Rules Football is all that matters here. Statistics prove IN RELATION TO POPULATION the AFL has the highest percentage of followers of any game in the world.
