Do you have a career guidance counselor at your school? They can often be a good source of information about what you need and which universities are the better for teaching. The University of Melbourne has some good information about becoming a teacher, but do you have an idea of which stream of education, you want to go into? Such as early education, primary, or secondary. I also found a universities link for Melbourne so I hope that helps.

You can take a few paths. If you know that education is what your heart desires, then you can go straight into an Education (primary) degree at somewhere like Monash University, Deakin, LaTrobe, etc. This takes 4 years. Alternatively, you could do an undergraduate degree in anything (Arts, Psychology, Science, Maths, etc) for three years, then do a Masters of Teaching/Education in 1-2 years at University of Melbourne or Deakin Uni. This is a higher qualification and you get a more in depth look at issues and subjects, and also spend more time in the classroom (1-2 days per week, plus 3 week block rounds, so its a bit more like the real thing). Get the Job Guide if you haven't already, and do your research! Open Days will be starting very soon, so get to as many unis as you can. Make sure you keep your options open, where there is a will there is a way! Starting salary is $55,000 a year, or close to it if you are in the public or catholic system, it varies in independent schools. Best of luck with your VCE, and with your future studies :)
